Working in Northfield

The village offices are on Northfield Road, and so is MGM Northfield Park, at 10777 Northfield Road. Northfield Village, Macedonia, Northfield Center and Sagamore Hills share the land of the old Northfield Township, and the village part became a village in 1912.

The village asks every home buyer for an occupancy application, and rental occupants need an occupancy permit. If you work across Nordonia Hills, one Google profile service area can list Northfield, Macedonia and the towns around them by name.

Permits and contractor registration in Northfield

The village says every contractor working on a property in Northfield must be registered with the village, and registration is renewed at the start of each year; it can be done online through the village's MyGov portal. It takes:

  • a $10,000 bond for residential work, or $25,000 for commercial work;
  • a certificate of insurance naming Northfield Village as additional insured;
  • a RITA form, if you work more than 12 days on the job.

The village's Building & Zoning Department reviews and permits work first. Residential new construction, additions and all commercial work then go to the Summit County Building Department, and heating, cooling, electrical and indoor plumbing permits come from the county. Building and Zoning Department: 330-468-4363.

Rules change, so check with the village before you start. Checked October 2026.

Questions from Northfield businesses

Can my Google profile cover Macedonia and Sagamore Hills too?

If you can get to jobs there, yes. I set one service area of about 10 to 15 miles that you can actually cover, and list the towns in it by name.

Can my website have a page for Northfield?

Yes, if Northfield is in your service area. On the 15- and 30-page plans, the towns you serve get their own pages, each written for that town.

Do I have to change the software I use now?

No. Keep it, and use it alongside the system.

Do contractors have to register to work in Northfield?

Yes. The village says every contractor registers with it at the start of each year, with a $10,000 bond for residential work or $25,000 for commercial, and insurance naming the village.

Should my website say I'm registered in Northfield?

If you are, it's worth saying. Your registration, insurance and licence details can go on your website, so a homeowner can check them before they call.
